Discussion & Study

On this Sunday, we studied the way Jesus forgives others. We learned that complete forgiveness is easier said than done. Unless we forgive our enemies, we are not loving the way Jesus commands us to. Is there someone in your life, past or present, that you still need to forgive? How can you pray for them and take action rather than just waiting for your feelings to change?

Carrying the weight of bitterness in our hearts negatively impacts every area of our lives. Jesus teaches us that we must pray for the Spirit to work on our hearts to change…not their’s. While our prayers may not affect those who hurt us, they absolutely will affect us. Is the Holy Spirit nudging you to finally shed some weight and forgive someone in your life?

The very last thing Jesus did on this earth was forgive the sinner right next to Him. Why do you think God wants us to forgive? Have you ever received unexpected forgiveness? What was that experience like?

Jesus said “by this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love another.” in John 13:35. What message would the people in your community say you are sending out to them? Is it a message of God’s grace and mercy? If not, then what message are you sending?
