Current Sermon Series

2,000 years ago Jesus did something that left many people scratching their head…he established the church. After he left this earth his desire was for His Body (another name for the church) to be the vessels to spread the gospel throughout the world. Things started off in a beautiful way – the very first church “attendees” were amazed to see that God’s love and mercy were no longer only for the elite and the best of the best. The old religious system of thousands of rules and trying to earn your way into a relationship with God was over; Jesus had come, gave himself as the ultimate sacrifice to make the relationship with our Father available to any and everyone, regardless of their life circumstances. He reclaimed all of humanity and restored our relationship with the Father. This powerful movement known as the gospel immediately saw unbelievable growth.

Over time, as it often happens, humanity began to take what was originally meant to be a beautiful redemptive relationship and they began to go back to their old ways of religion and rules. Before you know it, the very people that Jesus came to save, no longer felt that church was relevant or a place where they felt welcomed by “Christians”. They were no longer loved by the church who Jesus commanded to be his hands and feet to a hurting and dying world.

It’s become too common for people today to have given up on the mission of the local church. While the message and mission of God’s love has never wavered; unfortunately, far too many churches have.

Over the past two years God has been doing a MIGHTY work with His church at Cross Bend. He has given us a new vision, energy, and a new passion to reach those who desperately need to discover who Jesus is. We invite you to join us for our next series this Sunday called, Reclamation, as we continue to lay out the path that God has called our church to become as we strive to “embrace those who have given up on church, so they can discover Jesus.”

--- Our Pastor

“Our heart & soul is to connect people with the living and powerful God.”

Tom has been in the ministry for over 23 years and joined the staff at Cross Bend in 2001 where he served as the Youth and Children’s Pastor.  In 2011 he became Senior Pastor and is very excited about the amazing things God has in store at Cross Bend.  He met his wife, Shawn, while he was a student at Dallas Christian College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Bible. After a career in Interior Design, Shawn felt called to be a “missionary” in the public school system where she serves as a Art Teacher in a local Junior High School.  Together they have served the Lord and have shared their passion for “working in the trenches” ever since.  Tom enjoys many activities including woodworking, fly fishing, and spending time with his family.  Tom and Shawn have two children, Hunter and Laurie Ann.
